Christmas is here and the children have had Santa pass by or maybe not. Here, we are sure there are many who experienced today, Christmas Day, to be just like any other day. A struggle to just survive. Some did but some didn't. We just got home from visiting with a family that had a son, husband, father, brother lying in a very cheap box called a casket here. He got out of the prison last week so he could spend the Christmas Holiday with his family. He did spend a few days with them but this morning about 5:00 the family had a visitor or visitors, we are not sure. When the visitor left the man was dead from a stab wound. He will be buried at 9:00 AM tomorrow. Christmas, just another day to some that are seeking only to survive, to live for another day. This man didn't survive another day.
How was your Christmas spent? Visiting with family and loved ones? I am not sure this man knew Jesus but he was in the area that Pastor Elias and Scotty had their weekly Bible Study before the unrest started early this year. We pray that he did. This gives us a new fresh desire to get back to the regular visits to the prison. We were there the 16th for worship service and had a full house, praise God for this. Then on the 17th we went back and was able to distribute some food and drinks to the prisoners and the workers also. We had a good talk with the new warden. He is the third to hold that position this year. We did find out it is gong to more difficult to work there. He is devout catholic so we do not have the freedoms that we had when Colonel Walter was in that position. We knew that he would be moving out some time. They never leave a warden in one place very long.
RIVER MINISTRY....... We did not get to go on the Christmas trip to the villages this year but we did get the clothes delivered. The clothes went to 5 villages on the Tapajos and Arapiuns Rivers. They were Mentai, Cure, Boim, Serraria and Jauarituba. That was about 400 children and we then went to our church, Koynonia and gave out 60 more sets of clothes. Then on to another 2 villages close to Santarem not on the river and that was 50 plus sets of clothes. That gives us over 500 children receiving clothes this Christmas. This year was different than last in that we didn't go and there was very little water and was hard to get to the villages.
We are looking forward to next year but we may be making some changes in order to be able to get where we want to go. We are looking into some alternate opportunities. We will still be needing new clothes and money. So plan on this and try making plans a little earlier because we have CHILDREN'S DAY THE 12th OF OCTOBER. There is still a lot of water then. Get the hint?? THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYER AND SUPPORT FINANCIAL THIS YEAR. We have looked at houses trying to figure out how we can trim our budget for next year. Nothing felt very right and after much looking and talking and praying, we and our Board of Directors of Mission Boundaries Unlimited, Inc. have decided to stay here for 1 more year. This will give all of us time to get our finances together and look for something that we can afford for a long time. Maybe even buying something. Continue to pray for us as we seek His will in all that we do.
Love you all
Scotty & Jan
