January 26th Scotty left for the U.S.A. for 3 weeks to be with family due to the passing of his mother on January 26. That left me, Jan, to be in charge of the upcoming trip to some new villages on the Tapajos and Amazon Rivers. We visited Santo Amoro, Jauarituba and Serraria on the Tapajos River. Then went to Costa do Tapara and Paracari on the Amazon River.
We were invited last year to come back to visit in Santo Amoro and it was a tremendous blessing to be able to bring the Word of God to the villagers. This village, we were told by the leader, still followed many of the Indian cultures. Pastor Tim was quick to respond, "We are here as friends and did not come to change their culture but to tell them about Jesus Christ". Pr. Tim led a joint Bible study with the men and women together. There was a lot of questions about the Bible and about the United States. We had VBS also and had 34 children in attendance. We played games and colored pictures and told Bible Stories. There was 30 families in this village and before we left Pr. Tim gave the leader of the village 30 Bibles and told him that there was 1 for each family. We have been invited back and asked if we could bring some Biblical videos. Of course we agreed, and look forward to our return.
Jauarituba was the second village and we have been there before but it is always good to return for a visit. Pr. Tim led a Bible study with mostly men in the afternoon. The leader of the Catholic Church came to the study also. This man had a good time and even asked Tim to come back again. The women of our team gathered the ladies of the village together for manicures. There were a total of 60 women that came. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and gave us the opportunity to present the Gospel several times.
Serraria was the next village. Pastor Tim had another Bible study in the afternoon and a Priest from Boim came and participated. He told Tim that he was not opposed to Evangelicals coming to their villages. We had VBS with the children and used our puppets for the first time. Thank you for providing the puppets for our ministry. They were a huge hit with the children as well as the adults. God knows who you are. Every child received a ball or a doll as they left. Thanks to one of our Kentucky groups for these beautiful items for the children. We did manicures again this day and had 35 women. Pastor Tim had another afternoon Bible study with men and women. His topic for that day was FAITH.
Costa do Tapara was the next stop on our journey. This church and the one at the next village of Paracari was built by Dr, Richard Walker and his volunteer groups several years ago. The villagers were ready for us when we arrived. The school has about 222 students and since it rained this day there was only 174 there for our Bible School. I, Jan, love to do Snake Dancing with the children and I think this was the longest snake dance I have ever had. The children loved the puppets. This day I got to be one of the puppeteers. I found out it isn't as easy as you might think. In the afternoon we had 30 women come for manicures. There wasn't any men come for Bible study so Pastor and Adriano and someone from the village went on visitation.
Paracari was the final village on our trip. We had 85 children for VBS. This village is a very Catholic dominated village. The reception was good but they were not very open for the children to participate in the VBS. There was 15 women come for manicures. Pastor Tim had 20 men for his Bible study.
We had a great time and God's Word was taught and preached many times. Many seeds were planted and God will provide the nourishment and then will come the harvest.
TO ALL WHO HAD A PART IN THIS TRIP AND THIS MINISTRY WE SAY THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES IN GLORY.
WE LOVE YOU AND TILL THE NEXT TIME..... STAY WITH GOD !!!!!!!!
